Company Overview

SLT Foods is a minority-owned business whose success came from the growing culinary elegance of the American consumer. The company was founded in 1994 when owner Sandip Patel began importing Basmati Rice from India to serve the ethnic markets in the United States. Sandip used to work at his father’s ethnic store and while in college, he sought an opportunity to expand the business by importing rice. With the growth of sales, Sandip started to invest in a wider variety of products, such as tea, lentils, beans, and spices. Later, SLT created its own brand: Khazana, which sells in ethnic stores and warehouses and contains the same variety of products listed above.

Today, SLT Foods supplies a variety of products to small ethnic markets and big warehouse grocery stores such as Costco, Walmart, and BJ’s and has an estimated 300 customers in their portfolio. They are in three main locations: New Jersey, California, and Canada, with a total of 50 employees.
